An analysis of crystal dissolution fronts in flows through porous media part 2: incompatible boundary conditions

چکیده
A model for transport of solutes in a porous medium participating in a dissolution– precipitation reaction, in general not in equilibrium, is studied. Ignoring diffusion– dispersion the initial value problem for piecewise constant initial states is studied, which e.g. for ionic species include a change of the ionic composition of the solution. The mathematical solution, nearly explicitly found by the method of characteristics up to the (numerical) solution of an integral equation for the position of the dissolution front, exhibits a generalized expanding plateau-structure determined by the dissolution front and the water flow (or salinity) front. q 1998 Elsevier Science Limited.

An Analysis of Crystal Dissolution Fronts in Ows through Porous Media Part 1: Compatible Boundary Conditions
We propose a model for transport of solutes in a porous medium participating in a dissolu-tion/precipitation reaction, in general not in equilibrium. For an unbounded spatial domain, travelling wave solutions exist, if and only if the charge distribution is constant and we deal with a dissolution situation. The travelling wave in fact exhibits a sharp dissolution front. The wave is given in a n...
متن کاملCore-scale description of porous media dissolution during acid injection – Part I: Theoretical development
Dissolution mechanisms in porous media may lead to unstable dissolution fronts (“wormholing”). It has been shown in the literature that Darcy-scale models may reproduce all the characteristics of such dissolution patterns. This paper considers the core-scale averaged behavior of these Darcy-scale dissolution models. The form of core-scale equations is discussed based on the volume averaging of ...

متن کاملCrystal Dissolution and Precipitation in Porous Media: Pore Scale Analysis
In this paper we discuss a pore scale model for crystal dissolution and precipitation in porous media. We consider first general domains, for which existence of weak solutions is proven. For the particular case of strips we show that free boundaries occur in the form of dissolution/precipitation fronts. As the ratio between the thickness and the length of the strip vanishes we obtain the upscal...
متن کاملA Numerical Scheme for the Pore-Scale Simulation of Crystal Dissolution and Precipitation in Porous Media
In this paper we analyze a numerical scheme for a dissolution and precipitation in porous media. We focus here on the chemistry, which is modeled by a parabolic problem that is coupled through the boundary conditions to an ordinary differential inclusion defined on the boundary. We use a regularization approach for constructing a semi-implicit scheme that is stable and convergent. For dealing w...
